Bands

I have played in a lot of bands over the years. If you live or have lived in Leeds you may have seen me in one or more of the following.

5ex5

Played original material and played at The Fforde Greene in Leeds which was a top venue in the ’80‘s. The band also played The Beat Route Club in Soho. Previously called Trauma for a brief period. Demos exist somewhere but are all on tape.

Out Of The Blue

Played a lot of gigs in Leeds and did a live session for Radio Leeds. All material was written by the band. Also recorded a couple of demos that attracted record company interest but unfortunately didn’t lead anywhere in the end.

BillyNoMates

Were a short lived covers band playing mainly punk tunes. I really liked the name.

Flat Stanley

Another covers band with a strong punk influence, but with a twist on some poppier tunes as well. Played regularly all round Leeds and enjoyed a good following at The New Roscoe, a top music venue in Leeds that is sadly no more…

Funkal Infection

A band with some fantastic local musicians and my introduction to playing funk and soul live as opposed to at home!

I had a blast in this band and learned a lot. Had some great nights all around Leeds but The Roscoe and Highwood deserve a special mention.

Atomic

My only venture (so far) into the world of tribute bands. People of a certain age will know that this band was a tribute to Blondie. Played up and down the land, often with a Jam and Clash tribute in tow. Played The Cavern in Liverpool which was good for me, being a big Beatles fan.

Duvet: The Ultimate Covers Band

A function band that I played bass and backing vocals in up until 2015. My introduction to the function band circuit! It was good fun (despite the cheesy name). You can get more details on all things Duvet at www.ultimatecovers.co.uk

The Burning Aces

The Aces was a very busy function band that played a wide variety of music in an upbeat and passionate manner. The band played on a cruise ship in Norway and countless weddings, birthdays and corporate events. The Aces had a big, soul and ska influence but most tastes were catered for. The band would also perform a swing set. Their last gig was in September 2024. Though the occasional festival appearance may still happen!

The website is still active and you can see photos, video and hear lots of audio at www.theburningaces.rocks

The Deuce Katz

This band were all previous members of Funkal Infection. Mainly put together for a bit of fun, and for a while it certainly was. Great vocals in this band from Lisa and Kate and a very tight rhythm section.
